Privacy, daylight and the view outside.
Openness is the share of physical openings in a sunscreen weave. It is not light transmission or heat blocked. Privacy also changes with fabric color, room lighting and time of day.
Translucent
Softens daylight. Privacy varies with lighting.
1% sunscreen
Very tight weave with the least view-through.
3% sunscreen
Tight weave with a limited outward view.
5% sunscreen
More open weave with a clearer outward view.
10% sunscreen
Most open weave with the widest outward view.
